SKILL.md

name zoom
description Granularity control with +/- notation. Use + for detail, - for brevity. Always active. Works standalone or inside pewpew blocks.

Implementation Note for Future Users

This skill is "always active" when added to your system instructions.

  • ChatGPT (Web): Settings -> Personalization -> Custom Instructions
  • GPTs (Builder): Add to the GPT Instructions field
  • API: Include in the system prompt

If your environment only loads skills when invoked, the minimal rule is the activation layer.

Minimal ambient rule:

+term = expand, give detail on this topic
-term = compress, be brief, I know this
Works inline, standalone, or inside pewpew blocks.

The full skill file is reference documentation.

zoom - Granularity Control

Always Active

This skill is ambient. Whenever you see + or - prefixing terms, phrases, or sections in user input, respect them.

No trigger phrase needed. Just the symbols.

Syntax

+term -> expand, give detail, go deep
-term -> compress, be brief, I know this

Works on:

  • Single terms: +auth, -background
  • Phrases: +the specific error handling, -general overview
  • Sections: prefix a whole line or paragraph

Examples

Mixed granularity prompt:

-background on the project
+the auth integration specifically
-security considerations generally
+the exact rate limiting strategy

Response should be: brief, detailed, brief, detailed - in that order.

Inline:

Explain -OAuth basics but +token refresh edge cases

Inside pewpew (compatible):

[[ S__ | -decided:jwt | +open:rate-limits | -assumed:redis ]]

Prompt Enhancement Mode

User may ask you to add +/- markers to a prompt:

"Can you +/- this prompt for me?"
"Add zoom markers based on what I need"
"Mark this up for granularity"

When asked, analyze what likely needs detail vs. brevity and return the prompt with markers inserted.

Why One Character

Input Tokens Keystrokes
"give me more detail on" ~6 22
"+" ~1 1

Not about token savings. About friction. Lowest possible barrier to shaping output.

Composable

  • Works standalone in any prompt
  • Works inside pewpew blocks (S__, R__, I__)
  • Works with any other notation

Default assumption: unmarked = normal verbosity. You're opting in to detail (+) or brevity (-).
