Notes Generator (Bloom's Taxonomy)

Purpose

This skill generates structured educational notes following Bloom's Taxonomy cognitive framework. It produces comprehensive learning materials adaptively selecting appropriate taxonomy levels based on topic complexity, incorporating summaries, practice questions, visual concept maps, and references.

Bloom's Taxonomy Framework

The skill structures notes across relevant cognitive levels:

  1. Remember: Recall facts, terms, basic concepts
  2. Understand: Explain ideas, interpret information
  3. Apply: Use knowledge in concrete situations
  4. Analyze: Break down information, identify relationships
  5. Evaluate: Make judgments, critique, assess value
  6. Create: Synthesize information, produce original work

Instructions

Phase 1: Input Acquisition and Analysis

Step 1.1: Determine Input Source

If user provides a reference file:

  1. Use Read tool to access the file
  2. Extract topic, key concepts, and source material
  3. Proceed to Phase 2 with extracted content

If user provides only a topic title:

  1. Confirm topic scope with user if ambiguous
  2. Use WebSearch to gather authoritative information:
    Query pattern: "[topic] tutorial", "[topic] fundamentals", "[topic] comprehensive guide"
    
  3. Use WebFetch to retrieve 2-3 high-quality sources (educational sites, documentation, academic resources)
  4. Synthesize gathered information
  5. Proceed to Phase 2 with researched content

Step 1.2: Topic Classification

Analyze topic to determine appropriate Bloom levels:

  • Factual topics (history, terminology): Emphasize Remember, Understand
  • Procedural topics (programming, methods): Emphasize Understand, Apply, Analyze
  • Conceptual topics (theories, frameworks): Emphasize Understand, Analyze, Evaluate
  • Creative topics (design, composition): Include all levels, emphasize Create
  • Complex topics (systems, architectures): Focus on Analyze, Evaluate, Create

Select 4-6 most relevant taxonomy levels for the specific topic.

Phase 2: Content Structure Generation

Step 2.1: Executive Summary Creation

Generate concise overview (3-5 sentences):

  • Topic definition and scope
  • Primary learning objectives
  • Key concepts covered
  • Practical applications or relevance

Step 2.2: Bloom's Taxonomy Level Development

For each selected taxonomy level, generate 5-7 structured points:

Remember Level (if applicable):

  • Key terminology with definitions
  • Essential facts and figures
  • Fundamental principles
  • Memorization aids (mnemonics, acronyms)
  • Core components or elements

Understand Level:

  • Conceptual explanations in accessible language
  • Comparisons and contrasts
  • Cause-effect relationships
  • Interpretations of key ideas
  • Paraphrased core concepts
  • Examples illustrating principles

Apply Level:

  • Practical use cases
  • Step-by-step procedures
  • Implementation examples
  • Real-world applications
  • Scenario-based demonstrations
  • Problem-solving approaches

Analyze Level:

  • Component breakdown and decomposition
  • Relationship mapping between elements
  • Pattern identification
  • Comparative analysis
  • Structural examination

Error Handling and Edge Cases

If reference file is too brief or web research yields limited information:

  1. Inform user of content limitations
  2. Generate notes based on available information

Ambiguous Topics

If topic title is ambiguous (e.g., "Java" could mean programming language or island):
